Rights and Responsibilities: Healthy Pregnancies, Contraception and Abortion

There are vast disparities around the world in women’s access to effective contraceptive methods; medically accurate information and counseling about how to use them; and safe, affordable abortion services. Our work seeks to document these disparities and persuade decision makers of the benefits of policies and programs that ensure that all women are able to exercise their reproductive rights and responsibilities.

Highlights

In October, the Guttmacher Institute released “Abortion Worldwide: A Decade of Uneven Progress,” highlighting new data and trends on contraceptive use and the unmet need for contraception, unintended pregnancy rates and changes in the legal status of abortion. At our launch event in London, Guttmacher’s President, Dr. Sharon Camp, and Director of International Research, Akin Bankole, presented the report to press and colleagues, along with Kelly Culwell, from the International Planned Parenthood Federation, who offered the provider perspective of what’s happening on the ground. The release garnered worldwide media attention, with coverage in over 46 countries.
